WordPress fits the majority of projects: brochure sites, blogs, [WooCommerce shops](https://eldev.fr/en/technologies/woocommerce/index.md), multi-page portals. The back-office is familiar, the plugin ecosystem is vast and maintenance is accessible. A headless CMS (Strapi, Sanity, Contentful) becomes compelling when you need to push the same content to multiple channels (website, mobile app, kiosk, newsletter) or when the frontend demands maximum performance, Lighthouse 95+ on a React or [Astro](https://eldev.fr/en/technologies/astro/index.md) site. The added cost is real: expect 30–50% more than a classic WordPress build due to the frontend/backend decoupling. We help you weigh both options during scoping. ### Is WordPress secure? WordPress core is regularly audited and patched, most breaches come from abandoned plugins, nulled themes or poorly configured shared hosting. Our WordPress builds ship with no unnecessary plugins, custom-built themes, automatic updates for core and audited extensions, a WAF and daily backups. For existing sites that need hardening, we run a full security audit before touching anything. Ongoing monitoring is covered by our [maintenance](https://eldev.fr/en/services/maintenance/index.md) service. ### Can I edit the content myself? That's exactly the goal. Every site ships with a back-office training session (1–2 hours depending on complexity) and a simplified admin interface: custom blocks in the Gutenberg editor, ACF custom fields for structured data and a decluttered dashboard. The result: you can create a page, publish a post or edit a section without touching code. If you ever hit a wall, our [maintenance](https://eldev.fr/en/services/maintenance/index.md) service is there to help. ### How much does a custom WordPress site cost? Cost depends on scope: a custom-themed site, a WooCommerce project with membership areas, a redesign or a headless Strapi build are very different engagements. Every quote follows a detailed brief, [get in touch](https://eldev.fr/en/contact/index.md) for an estimate within 12 hours. ### Can WordPress achieve good Lighthouse scores? Yes, as long as you avoid the classic pitfalls: page builders generating dead CSS, dozens of third-party scripts loaded synchronously, unoptimised images. Our themes are built without page builders, with native lazy loading, WebP/AVIF generation, inlined critical CSS and servers configured with object cache (Redis) and a CDN. On recent projects we consistently hit 90+ Performance on desktop and 80+ on mobile. For even higher scores, the [hosting and infra](https://eldev.fr/en/services/hosting-infra/index.md) layer is key. ## Technologies & industries - [Freelance WordPress Developer](https://eldev.fr/en/technologies/wordpress/index.md): Freelance WordPress developer: custom themes without page builders, dedicated plugins, security, performance and migration.
